Jeff Metcalf used his first major podcast appearance since Karmelo Anthony's murder conviction to deliver a blistering assessment of the teenager found guilty of killing his son, Austin Metcalf. The grieving father expressed anger over both the sentence and the events that led to the deadly encounter at a Frisco track meet.
The interview quickly turned toward Anthony and the punishment handed down by jurors. According to TMZ, Metcalf referred to Anthony as a "watermelon felon" while discussing the case and criticized several people connected to the trial. The remarks surfaced shortly after Anthony received a 35 year prison sentence for Austin Metcalf's death.
Collin County jurors convicted Anthony of murder on June 9 after hearing testimony tied to the fatal stabbing of the 17 year old athlete during a high school track meet in April 2025. Jurors later handed Anthony a 35 year prison sentence.
Raw emotion remained a constant theme throughout Metcalf's public comments. He said he would have favored a death sentence if Anthony had been an adult at the time of the killing and argued that the prison term failed to match the lifetime his son lost.
Austin Metcalf approached Anthony inside a tent area designated for his school's team. Prosecutors argued the dispute escalated into a stabbing, while Anthony maintained that he acted in self defense. Jurors ultimately rejected that claim.
Grief filled the room as relatives described life without Austin. Austin's twin brother, Hunter, delivered an emotional statement about the loss, while Jeff Metcalf spoke about the pain that has followed his family since the stabbing.
The podcast appearance arrived only days after a judge lifted restrictions that had limited what Metcalf could publicly say about the criminal proceedings. With those limits gone, he used the interview to share perspectives he had avoided sharing while the trial was underway.
Anthony, now 19, has been transferred into the Texas prison system and will become eligible for parole after serving roughly half of his sentence. Defense attorneys have indicated they plan to continue pursuing relief through the appeals process.
