Vic Mensa has made no secret of his admiration for Prince, and now the Chicago rapper and actor says portraying the music icon on screen is the role he wants most. During a recent interview, Mensa declared, "Yeah, I want to play Prince in a biopic. That's my ultimate goal," putting the dream project at the top of his acting wish list.
The announcement arrives as Mensa continues expanding his acting career beyond music. He has appeared in several television and film projects while building a résumé that could strengthen his case for playing one of the most influential performers in music history. According to Blavity, Mensa recently reiterated that portraying Prince remains a dream role and something he still hopes to accomplish as his acting career grows.
Audiences know Mensa from his role as Jamal on the Showtime series The Chi, where he played a reformed character navigating life on Chicago's South Side. The part allowed him to demonstrate a range that extended beyond his work as a recording artist and introduced him to a wider television audience.
He also appeared on Peacock's Bel-Air as Quentin "Q" Harrison, an entrepreneur who mentors younger characters on the series. The role added another major television credit and further expanded his experience in front of the camera.
Mensa's interest in portraying Prince is not new. Years before his latest comments, he publicly argued that he should be considered for the role if a biographical film were ever produced, citing Prince as one of his biggest musical inspirations.
An interesting twist came in 2020 when Mensa portrayed a character named Prince in the film Akilla's Escape. While unrelated to the legendary musician, the coincidence has resurfaced as fans discuss whether he could eventually take on the much larger challenge of bringing the Purple One's story to the big screen.
No Prince biopic featuring Mensa has been announced, and there has been no confirmation that a major film centered on the late performer is moving forward. For now, the rapper continues building his acting credentials while keeping his sights set on the role he says he wants more than any other.
