Nolan Wells' family is demanding more answers after civil rights attorney Ben Crump questioned how the 18-year-old's body was recovered near Horn Island, Mississippi, close to where he was last seen during a Fourth of July outing.

Representing Wells' family, Crump said investigators should explain how the teen's body was found in roughly the same area despite Gulf Coast tidal movement. He argued that the unanswered questions have only deepened the family's concerns and reinforced their request for a complete accounting of Wells' final hours before his disappearance.

There are also unanswered medical questions surrounding the case, as reported by the Associated Press, after a private autopsy commissioned by Wells' family was unable to determine a definitive cause or manner of death. The examination also did not rule out foul play.

Crump said attorneys are asking that every cellphone carried by people on the Horn Island trip be examined together instead of separately so investigators can compare activity across all of the devices. Court filings also show Wells' mother has issued subpoenas seeking account records, messages, photos, videos and location data from Meta, Snapchat, TikTok, WhatsApp and Life360 as the family searches for additional answers surrounding the devices.

Newly released Sea Tow audio has become another focal point in the search for answers after attorneys representing Wells' family retained forensic audio specialists to review the recording for details that may not be clear in publicly available versions. Ocean-current experts are also examining whether the location where Wells was found is consistent with where witnesses said he was last seen.

Wells' family is still waiting to review the official autopsy after the Mississippi State Medical Examiner completed the report, but the findings have not yet been released publicly or shared with them. They have said they will continue pursuing answers through both the official process and their own independent efforts until they have a clearer understanding of what happened to their son.
